Mitchell is an experienced international government and corporate affairs practitioner with a deep background in financial services.
Most recently, Mitchell was Managing Director of Global Public Affairs at CPP Investments (the manager of the Canada Pension Plan), where he supported global transactions, portfolio management, and the Fund’s relationship with international institutions.
Mitchell was formerly Head of Government Relations for the Corporate and Investment Banking Divisions of Barclays and a key advisor to the global senior leadership team on political and corporate positioning and issues management. This included managing the policy and advocacy response to the global financial crisis at the G20, E.U., Asia, and U.S. levels, and advising on a range of sensitive and politically challenging transactions across the globe.
Before joining Barclays, Mitchell was at Merrill Lynch Europe, where he spearheaded the growth of the EMEA Government Relations team and advised both the office of the CEO and the regional management team.
Mitchell was also part of the founding team at Innovate Finance – the UK trade association for FinTech firms, a member of the World Economic Forum Financial Services Sector Advisory Board, and a co-Chair of the Financial Services Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce to the E.U.
Mitchell started his career as a foreign policy advisor for a leading member of the House of Lords.
