Mimi Carter

Managing Director, Arts, Culture & Foundations 🇺🇸

Mimi is a communications, marketing, and partnerships strategist who helps arts institutions, cultural organizations, global nonprofits and foundations extend their influence and deepen their impact. She brings particular expertise in brand partnerships, digital strategy, audience development, and integrated communications, connecting mission with the people, platforms, and partners to move it forward.

Before joining Stillpoint, Mimi served as Vice President of Communications & Partnerships at Chihuly Studio, the creative headquarters of the world famous glass artist, Dale Chihuly. She led integrated communications, digital strategy, stakeholder engagement, and brand partnerships designed to strengthen the Studio’s global visibility and support the long-term stewardship of the Chihuly legacy. She transformed its public relations approach, contributing to a 25% increase in press coverage within six months, and developed partnerships with brands including Delta Air Lines and Pendleton Woolen Mills.

Mimi has advised foundations and international development organizations on how to translate ambitious missions into communications that build understanding, participation, and trust. Her experience includes work for Mastercard Foundation and Case Foundation, as well as organizations advancing economic opportunity, global development, health, and social progress. For Mastercard Foundation’s Young Africa Works initiative in Kenya, her work incorporated paid and organic social media, search strategy, influencer engagement, and performance analytics to reach and engage young people around opportunities for meaningful employment.

This experience gives Mimi a valuable perspective on the opportunity facing a new generation of corporate foundations: how to draw strength from an originating brand while establishing an identity, voice, and credibility of their own. She helps foundations clarify the role they want to play, identify the audiences and partnerships essential to their success, and build communications systems capable of demonstrating both relevance and results.

Mimi’s career in arts and culture includes senior leadership roles with the Corcoran Gallery of Art and College of Art + Design, the National Gallery of Art, Dumbarton Arts & Education, and the Association of Performing Arts Presenters. At the Corcoran, she directed communications and marketing and served as the national spokesperson during the institution’s closely watched transition with George Washington University and the National Gallery of Art.

Across her career, Mimi has helped organizations turn purpose into meaningful participation. She understands how digital platforms, strategic partnerships, disciplined communications, and a clear institutional identity can work together to reach new audiences, strengthen trust, and create lasting cultural and social impact.

Mimi holds an M.A. in Journalism and Public Policy from American University and a B.A. in American Literature from George Washington University.
